WHAT CAN YIN YOGA DO FOR ME?

The physical benefits from Yin Yoga include flexibility and opening of energy channels in the body. Flexibility is increased by holding long poses intended to target not only the fascial network, but all the connective tissue of the body, specifically around the knees,

pelvis, sacrum, and spine. Not only that, these positions clear blockages in the body resulting in an increase of energy flow. In addition to its physical benefits, Yin Yoga is also mentally rewarding. Because each pose is held for so long, one can use that time

to practice mindfulness and internal reflection.

WHAT IS YIN YOGA?

Yin Yoga is a practice that targets the deepest layer of fascia through long-held, passive

poses. By holding an intentional pose for three to five minutes while either seated or on

one’s back, the body is able to first surrender and then soften and finally melt into place.

During this time, deep breathing exercises encourage the mind is to enter a meditative

state. The convergence of these two principles reap many rewards.

HOW IS YIN YOGA DIFFERENT FROM TRADITIONAL YOGA?

Yin Yoga takes a passive approach unlike traditional yoga -- it does not strain one’s

muscles or joints. In fact, it is encouraged not to use muscles at all while holding a

pose.
